Taylor on the Move! is the City of Taylor's 2023 Street Maintenance Project. On this page you'll find information and updates about the street project, including project timelines, traffic disruptions, and project reports.

Introduction

The 2023 Street Maintenance Project is part of the 2022 Infrastructure Bond approved by Council in a public meeting on December 8, 2022. The Project will include significant improvements to City streets, including seal coating, sidewalk reconstruction, street reclamation with new surface asphalt, signing, striping, and traffic control, with significant improvements to Mallard Lane, Second, and Fourth streets. In addition, there will be some travel lane changes, additional parking spaces added downtown, and bike lanes installed on Mallard Lane and Fourth Street. 

Construction will begin this summer and is estimated to be substantially complete by spring 2024.

Project Timeline

  • Thursday, June 22 - Taylor City Council voted to award a construction contract to Texas Road in the amount of $4,094,857.40. 
  • Construction set to begin July 2023
  • Construction anticipated to be completed spring 2024

Mallard Lane

Mallard Lane improvements will include full-depth reclamation, resurfacing, and striping from Carlos G. Parker Boulevard to Main Street. A two-way cycle track will be installed on the north side of Mallard Lane. Stop bars and pedestrian crosswalk striping will be installed throughout Mallard Lane and are expected to be completed before the school year starts in August. There will also be valley gutter replacement and minor sidewalk construction.

Fourth Street

Fourth Street will also undergo resurfacing and striping from Main Street to Carlos G. Parker Boulevard. There will be updated striping from Main Street to Gym Street. There will be full-depth reconstruction to smooth a portion of the roadway west of the railroad crossing. A two-way cycle track will be installed on the north side of the street.


Feb. 8 Update: Construction on Fourth Street is currently underway. The project will take about three months to complete. Please be aware of any detours or traffic changes while driving through the area and look out for construction crews.

Second Street

Improvements for Second Street will include resurfacing and striping from Carlos G. Parker Boulevard to Main Street. There will also be revised striping from Davis Street to Main Street which will include angled parking on the north and south sides of the street. There will be a reduction of roadway sections from four lanes to two lanes to provide more parking in the downtown area.
