Water system disinfecting may affect water taste

Citizens may notice a slight change in the taste and odor of the drinking water starting Monday, October 23 through Sunday, November 19, 2017; however, it is safe to drink. The City of Taylor and Brazos River Authority are doing annual maintenance work on the water system, changing the total chlorine to free chlorine as part of the process to rid the system of unwanted bacteria inside the distribution pipes. The City of Taylor Water Utilities Department has scheduled this work now so that it is complete before the Thanksgiving holiday.

The amount of free chlorine introduced into the system is in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency's guidelines for water treatment systems. The EPA oversees information about the federal Safe Drinking Water Act. Cities across the country regularly perform this type of maintenance.
