Taylor Police arrest suspect in fatal hit-and-run

Taylor Police Detectives, with the assistance of the Texas Rangers, and in consultation with the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, have obtained an arrest warrant for Missael Padilla Lopez, 21, of Taylor, in the hit-and-run collision that left one dead and another injured. The investigation revealed that the male suspect Lopez was driving the 1995 Red GMC Pick-up Truck that struck Taylor resident Sharonda Barrett, 16, resulting in her death on Saturday, August 5.


According to TPD, Lopez intentionally failed to stop and left the scene of the collision. Lopez has been charged with Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death, a second-degree felony (Texas Transportation Code 550.021) Lopez was arrested by Taylor Police Detectives and the Texas Rangers at a construction job site in Austin, Texas, located at 6th Avenue and Lamar Boulevard.


On Friday, August 11, after investigation, TPD seized a vehicle that was identified as the one that possibly was involved in the accident that also injured Darina Mitchell of Taylor. The pair was walking westbound along Old Thorndale Road when they were struck by a vehicle that left the scene. The investigation showed that a 1995 red GMC pickup truck was likely the vehicle that struck and killed Barrett.
