At the Thursday, December 14 meeting, City Council moved forward to implement a curbside recycling program. The vote was 3-2, after much discussion with concerns for adding the cost to monthly fees that residents currently pay.
Those voting in favor of the ordinance to accept the proposed contract with Waste Connections were Mayor Brandt Rydell, Mayor Pro Tem Christine Lopez and Dwayne Ariola. Voting against the measure were Robert Garcia and Chris Gonzales. Many letters, emails and calls to Council Members came into play, both for and against, as each made their decisions.
Details about the program will be forthcoming within the next few weeks. Costs to each residence are expected to be $2.50 per month for the first year of the five-year contract, and $3.25 for years two through five.
