Development Services
The Development Services Department is responsible for directing the City of Taylor’s building and development operations, enforcing municipal codes and ordinances, and implementing programs that advance economic and community development.
Building Permits
- Reviews and Issues building permit applications.
- Coordinates building inspections.
- Provides guidance to applicants (contractors, developers, homeowners) on permitting processes and requirements.
- Ensures adherence to local, state, and federal codes, including building, energy, accessibility, and life safety standards.
- Monitors contractor licensing and registration to ensure authorized parties are performing work.
- Collaborates with planning, engineering, and code enforcement to support safety and orderly development.
Code Enforcement
- Maintain safe and healthy neighborhoods by ensuring properties meet safety standards.
- Ensure public health and safety by addressing issues like unsafe structures.
- Respond to complaints from the public about possible code violations.
- Issue notice of violation to property owners who violate codes.
Planning
- Manages long-range planning initiatives, including Comprehensive Plans, corridor plans, small area plans, and Land Development Code policy updates.
- Reviews development applications such as zoning changes, subdivision plats, site plans, variances, and special use permits.
- Ensures compliance with zoning and land-use regulations.
- Engages with the community through public meetings, workshops, and outreach to gather input on planning initiatives and development proposals.
- Oversees Housing Programs, including affordable housing initiatives and coordination with local partners.
